VACCINATION PROTOCOL

Newborn:
- Vitamin A/D/E and Selenium
- Treat navel with iodine
- 4 litres colostrum in first 24hrs of life
- (optional) calf castration ring
- (optional) dehorning

Branding (~6 wks):
- 8-way vaccination
- (optional) anthrax vaccination
- growth implant
- fly tag
- (optional) knife castration
- (optional) dehorning
- (optional) Somnugen vaccination
- (optional) parpasite control

3 Weeks Pre-weaning:
- 8-way vaccination
- Somnugen vaccination
- (optional) IBR/BVD/BRSV vaccination (live vaccine)
note: Shedding of virus from calf to cow is no longer a concern. Separate calves from cows for 2 hours post-vaccination.
note: Somnugen needs to be given twice in the fall.
note: Live IBR/BVD vaccines do not need to be boosted until next year.
Killed IBR/BVD vaccines need to be boosted 3 weeks after the first shot.

Weaning:
- IBR/BVD/BRSV/Somnugen vaccination (live vaccine-if not given earlier.)
- (optional) prophylactic antibiotic shot
- parasite control (internal versus external parasites)
- Growth implant (males)
note: Some data indicates possible delayed first heat in implanted females.

Midwinter:
- IBR booster (in feedlot)
- lice control (if necessary)

Prebreeding:
- 8-way vaccination
- IBR/BVD/BRSV (modified live)
- (optional) Anthrax vaccination
- (optional) fly tag
- Semen test bulls
- (optional) internal parasite control

Fall processing (Heifers):
- Pregnancy test
- IBR/BVD vaccination (killed - if not given in spring)
- (optional) scour vaccine
- parasite control
- (optional) 8-way vaccination (if not given in spring)

Midwinter:
- lice control if necessary
- (optional)Vitamin A/D/E + selenium shot
- 1st scour vaccination (if not given at preg. check)

2 Weeks Precalving:
- 8-way vaccination
- 2nd scour vaccination
- VitaminA/D/E + selenium

Post-calving/ 3 weeks Pre-breeding:
- IBR/BVD (optional BRSV)(live)
- (optional) 8-way vaccination (if not given pre-calving)
- (optional) Anthrax vaccination
- (optional) ear tags
- (optional) parasite control

Mature Cow Fall Processing:
- Pregnancy testing
- Parasite control
- IBR/BVD (killed - if not given in spring)
- 8-way vaccination (if not given in spring)

Midwinter:
- (optional) lice control
- (optional) Vitamin A/D/E+ selenium

2 Weeks Pre-calving:
- scour vaccination
- 8-way vaccination
